Nation of Sanctuary Under A Groove

With funding support from the ACW Create award scheme we are delighted to bring the culmination of Our Nation of Sanctuary Under A Groove project to you. To share and celebrate with you, the work that has been created over the last six months.

Our vision for this project was for Oasis One World Choir to bring the voices, cultures and languages of people seeking sanctuary to a wider audience. We worked to create original music, movement, spoken word and wearable art  to produce an artistic celebration for our Nation of Sanctuary.

Throughout the project we were able to work with some amazing artists. We created poems and songs together with Welsh poet Mererid Hopwood and Multi-linguist, songwriter and choir member Joseff Gnagbo.

Mujib Yahaya, our choir member and freelance dance facilitator worked with Dosbarth Diamond at Adamsdown Primary School, (our local school of Sanctuary) to create a music video. The children from Dosbarth Diamond will be joining us to perform live at the evening concert.

We also worked with multidisciplinary artist Abi Hubbard to create the Our Nation of Sanctuary Under A Groove Cloak which symbolises a gift of sanctuary to the wearer.

Oasis One World Choir Musical Director Laura Bradshaw worked with the choir to produce some incredible songs that reflect Our Nation of Sanctuary.

June Campbell-Davies our dance choreographer also created gorgeous movement pieces with the choir with Itura dancers and Adeola Dewis, soundtrack by Ffion Campbell-Davies.

We are so proud of the songs, dance pieces, spoken word and wearable art we have created together for the project. We can’t wait to share it with you.

None of this would have been possible without our wonderful partners Oasis Cardiff, Welsh Centre for International Affairs, (WCIA), City of Sanctuary, Academi Heddwch, Voices Network Uk and Voices Ambassadors and Adamsdown Primary School.
